Synopsis

Une femme traverse une forêt en voyageant à l’intérieur de ses souvenirs. En se revoyant elle-même enfant avec son père à la chasse, elle revit la terreur des coups de fusil et l’envie d’être acceptée malgré le fait qu’elle ne soit pas un garçon. Pour la première fois, elle voit aussi son père avec des yeux différents, en comprenant sa solitude et sa faiblesse.
«La mécanique de la grive» c’est un film qui parle de la famille, de la difficulté de grandir dans les attentes et de la déception des attentes déçues. C’est un film qui nous parle de l’amour qui parfois se joue entre le pouvoir et la souffrance.

Note d’intentions

A la base de ce projet il y avait l’idée d’une installation vidéo à partir d’images d’archive qui avait pour titre «La famille nucléaire». Je voulais créer quelque chose d’ironique et déflagrant qui bombardait le spectateur en mettant l’accent sur les clichés avec lesquels les médias, l’État et la religion, exploitent la notion de famille. Je voulais même dénoncer la violence domestique et la famille comme premier système de pouvoir à s’imposer sur la liberté individuelle. Je pense encore que c’est un projet intéressant mais c’est clair qu’en réalisant « La mécanique de la grive » j’ai enfin donné voix à d’autres instances. Pourquoi voulais-je m’occuper de cette thématique? Qu’est ce qu’il y avait de personnel derrière ce discours si général ? Quel était mon conflit direct avec la famille ? Que m’avait si’ profondément blessée ? Avec ces questions j’ai commencé à sonder les profondeurs de mon passé qui est similaire à celui de la protagoniste du film sur les traces de son enfance. Immergée dans un flux d’émotions indéfinies j’ai cherché l’équilibre dans une écriture rigoureuse et j’ai donc choisi de tourner en pellicule Super 16mm. J’ai transposé mon vécu autobiographique du Sud de l’Italie au Nord de la France pour donner à ce souvenir un statut autonome et pour essayer de le rendre universel. Surtout, j’ai découvert que avant d’exprimer ma rage j’avais besoin de guérir la douleur. « La mécanique de la grive » est un voyage initiatique intérieur.

Synopsis

A woman walks in the forest whilst travelling through her memories. Seeing herself again as a child out hunting with her father, she relives the terror of the gunshots and the desire to be accepted by him despite the fact that she was not the son he wanted. For the first time she sees her father with different eyes, understanding his loneliness and weakness. «The Recall of the songbird» is a film about family, about the difficulty of childhood and living up to expectations, and the disappointments of perceived failure. It’s a film about love, which is sometimes played out between power and suffering.

Artist statement

This project developed from an idea for a video installation based on archive images and with the title “The Nuclear Family.” I wanted to create something ironic and inflammatory to expose the clichés used by the media, the state and religion with regard to the concept of family. I also wanted to denounce domestic violence and the role of the family as a primary power system for curbing individual freedom. I still think this is an interesting project but it is clear that in making “The Recall of the Songbird” in the end I gave voice to other aspects. Why did I want to confront this topic? What was personal behind this generalized statement? What was my own conflict with the family? What had hurt me so deeply? With these questions I began digging into my past, which parallels that of the character in the film who returns to the traces of her own childhood. Caught up in a flow of uncertain emotions, I looked for equilibrium in spare writing and chose to film using Super 16mm. I transferred my personal history from Southern Italy to the North of France to give to this memory an autonomous status and to seek to make it universal. Above all, I have discovered that before giving expression to my subversive theme I needed to heal myself. “The Recall of the Songbird” is an initial inner exploration.

Synopsis

Una donna cammina in una foresta viaggiando attraverso i suoi ricordi d’infanzia. Rincontrando se stessa bambina a caccia con il padre, rivive il terrore dei colpi di arma da fuoco e il desiderio di essere accettata nonostante non sia un maschio. Per la prima volta riesce anche a vedere suo padre con occhi diversi, comprendendone la solitudine e la debolezza. «Il Richiamo del Tordo» è un film che parla della famiglia, della difficoltà di crescere nelle aspettative e della delusione delle aspettative disattese. E’ un film sull’amore che spesso si mescola al potere e al dolore.

Note di regia

Alla base di questo progetto c’era l’idea di una video-installazione basata su immagini d’archivio dal titolo « La famiglia nucleare ». Volevo creare qualcosa di ironico e deflagrante che bombardasse lo spettatore mettendo l’accento sui clichés con cui media, stato e religione, strumentalizzano il concetto di famiglia. Volevo anche denunciare la violenza domestica e la famiglia come primo sistema di potere a imporsi sulla libertà individuale. Penso ancora che sia un progetto interessante ma é evidente che realizzando « Il richiamo del tordo » ho in fine dato voce ad altre istanze. Perché volevo occuparmi di questo tema? Cosa c’era di personale dietro questo discorso cosi’ generale ? Quale era il mio conflitto diretto con la famiglia ? Che cosa mi aveva cosi’ profondamente ferita ?  Con questi quesiti comincia uno scandagliamento profondo del mio passato che é pari a quello della protagonista del film sulle tracce della propria infanzia. In balia di un flusso di emozioni indefinite ho cercato l’equilibrio in una scrittura rigorosa ed ho scelto per questo di girare in pellicola super 16mm. Ho trasposto il mio vissuto autobiografico dal Sud dell’Italia al Nord della Francia per dare a questo ricordo uno statuto autonomo e per cercare di renderlo universale.  Soprattutto, ho scoperto che prima di esprimere la mia carica eversiva avevo bisogno di guarire il dolore. « Il richiamo del tordo » é un viaggio iniziatico interiore.
