« Ciao Mammina! » was born by chance in a workshop sponsored by the Pocket Film Festival about filming with the mobile phone. I had half an hour to make a long take with this equipment, but in half an hour how was I to make something significant in the depths of suburban Lille? Disappointed, I headed home thinking how there is really nothing to show in the grey area where I live. Hence the notion of recounting my existential condition. As a good Italian daughter, I recorded a message to my mother to tell her how I was, how I live, what I miss about my family and my country, how difficult it is for me to relate to a new place and a new culture. »Ciao mammina! » is an experiment in auto-fiction between performance and direct cinema reflecting ironically on cultural differences between Northern France and Southern Italy. In this little video I experiment with film space, alternating between close-ups of my face and long shots of what surrounds me.

« Ciao mammina! » nasce per caso, nell’ambito di un laboratorio di riprese col cellulare promosso dal Pocket film festival. Avevo mezz’ora per reallizzare un piano sequenza con questo strumento, ma in mezz’ora che fare nell’estrema periferia di Lille? Delusa mi dirigo verso casa pensando a quanto non ci sia davvero niente da mostrare nel grigio quartiere in cui sono. Da qui la voglia di racconatare una condizione esistenziale in un modo diretto, immediato e che tenga conto dello specifico del mezzo.
« Ciao mammina! » é un esperimento di autofiction in cui usando il dispositivo della registrazione di un messaggio privato, mi interrogo sui limiti dell’auto messa in scena, sull’autenticità e sul calcolo delle mie emozioni tra la performance cinematografica e la vita vera. E anche un momento in cui lo spazio filmico si divide tra l’interno e l’esterno di me, tra l’io volto/anima/racconto e l’io occhio/visione/mondo.
