Ne nacque un piccolo film: To My Darling.

Patience Gray’s birthday: two preview excerpts from Remembering Norman Mommens
For me, today is not Halloween but Patience Gray’s birthday (31 October 1917). It has been so ever since, in 2007 if I remember correctly, the books that Norman Mommens made for her every year, throughout the month of October, for her birthday were found at Spigolizzi. They gave rise to a short film: To My Darling.
Norman and Patience were two rare people who had made radical choices, building their lives on the pillars of frugality, creativity, transmission and care for the environment. Patience in particular, writer, cook and wanderer, author of the cult book Honey from a Weed, spread her vision of the world through her books. She became an example who still inspires hundreds, perhaps thousands of people today, especially in the English-speaking world, where her books are still in print. I can bear witness to this through the many people who keep writing to me asking to see To My Darling.
At Spigolizzi, in Salento, Norman and Patience built for more than thirty years a life made of stone, earth, books and everyday gestures, true to the radical choices they shared. Patience, almost five years older than him, which was unusual for the time, could hardly be called a muse: she was a true guide, his mentor.
To remember her, I am presenting two world-premiere excerpts from Remembering Norman Mommens, my as-yet-unreleased documentary. Begun for the centenary of Norman’s birth and completed four years later, the film grew from the wish to bring that life back, along with the presence of the Flemish sculptor and thinker, through his works, his words and the places he lived in with her. I am sure Norman would be delighted that the first two official excerpts from a film about him are released in remembrance of her.
